‘But be doers of the Word (obey
the message), and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves (into
deception by reasoning contrary to the Truth)’ (James 1:22).
God’s Word is The Truth and it should
be the final authority in our lives as well.
We receive it with meekness; James wrote in his book 1:21, ‘therefore
lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness
the implanted word, which is able to save your souls’. Our opening verse says that we are deceiving
ourselves by reasoning contrary to the Truth.
Remember, blessed are those who
are consistent in listening to God’s Word and act on the word. James wrote that in the same chapter 25th
verse, ‘but he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it,
and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the word, this one will
be blessed in what he does.’
Without meditating God’s Word it is not possible to act on the
Word. God said, ‘this Word should not depart from
your mouth but you will meditate on it day and night so that you may observe to
do all that is written in it…’(Joshua 1:8). He who looks into the perfect Law (which is the Word of God) is
meditating the Word; contemplate the message in your heart.
Let God’s Word reign and take
mastery over your life. Let it be your comfort and light to your path. Allow God’s Word to minister to you. Whether it may be an instruction to do something
or to avoid something, or a pre-warning for your life; incline your ears to the
message and act on the Word. You ACT on
the Word because you trust Him and you love Him. Don’t do because you have to which is
religion. God’s Word is Life and
strength to you. It will keep you from
the evil one.
Pray with me
Dear Heavenly Father, I receive Your Word with all meekness. Let Your Word abide in my heart in all wisdom
to guide me and keep me from the evil one.
In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
